Packaged Encoders: Overview
Based on 45 years of field-proven reliability and performance, DRC incremental encoders are well known for fast and easy installation using industry-standard mechanical and electrical interfaces.
Choose from sealed or kit-style rotary encoders, kit-style linear encoders, or sealed linear length gauges, featuring:
- Optical encoder technology with LED light source for long life and highest performance
- Differential digital outputs with available zero reference
- Custom versions available for OEM applications
Sealed Rotary Shaft and Hollow Shaft Encoders
Rugged, reliable incremental rotary encoders in sealed metal housings, featuring:
- Industry-standard mechanical and electrical interfaces for bolt-in-place, "plug and play" installation
- Reliable, long-life designs with integral bearings and sealed metal enclosures
- Resolutions from 400 to 360,000 Counts Per Rev., with a wide range of shaft/coupling sizes, mounting options, connector styles, and cable lengths
- High accuracy, high temperature, high shaft load, and extra-high vibration-resistant models
Kit-Style Rotary Encoders for Motors
Reliable, easy to install incremental rotary encoders for motors, featuring:
- Sizes available for a wide range of shaft diameters
- Resolutions from 400 to 100,000 Counts Per Rev., with a wide range of shaft/coupling sizes
Kit-style Linear Encoders
Compact, easy-to-install incremental linear encoders, featuring:
- Screw-mount sensors
- Glass scales for accuracy and thermal repeatability
- Resolutions from 10µm to 0.5µm
- Measuring lengths up to 1.2m (48in)
- Center or end index (reference) marks
Sealed Linear Length Gauges
Linear length gauges are easy to mount and have a sealed linear encoder with a spring-loaded probe, and feature:
- Screw-mount housing mounts to any flat surface
- Integral high-precision linear guideway
- Glass scales for accuracy and thermal repeatability
- Resolutions from 2.5µm to 1µm
Custom Encoders
Available for OEM applications, packaged encoders can be engineered for:
- Unique customer shaft sizes, mounting configurations, and cable/connector requirements
- High resolution, temperature, and accuracy capabilities
- Unusual environmental requirement
For applications requiring shielded, high-resolution encoders, choose from over 24 models in the Mercury™ family of encoders for the following requirements:
- Higher resolution or accuracy
- High EMI environments such as linear motors
- Space constraints where the encoder will be located
